When reporting a bug

Three things make investigation much faster:

1. The exact steps that led to the problem
2. What you expected, and what actually happened
3. Which device, your OS version, and your emdee version — on Mac, emdee ▸ About emdee; on iPhone and iPad, the version is shown on emdee's App Store page

Frequently asked questions

Opening a .md file starts a different app

Mac: right-click the file, choose Get Info, set "Open with" to emdee, and click "Change All…".
iPhone and iPad: iOS decides which app opens a file you tap, and it offers no "always open with" setting. The sure route is to press and hold the file and choose Share ▸ emdee. Either way the file opens where it is — no copy is made.

Images in my document do not appear

emdee does not display images. Where one would be, you see its path in a frame instead, so nothing goes missing from the document without saying so. There is no way to insert an image, either. The Markdown is kept exactly as written, so the image is still there when you open the file in another app.

Will emdee modify my files?

If you don't edit, the file is never touched. When you do edit, line endings and text encoding are preserved exactly as the file was opened. There is one exception: if you type a character the original encoding cannot represent — an emoji in a Shift_JIS file, say — the file is saved as UTF-8 rather than losing the character.

Do I have to buy it twice?

No. One purchase covers iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
